Wanna Contra?
Every Wednesday in the nonsummer months there are Contra dances at the Women's Club at 9th and Walnut (just off Maple) on the lower South hill of Spokane.  For a small admission fee ($7 general admission and $5 for SFS members and students (with ID)), you get live music, a skilled caller, and congenial companions.
It can be a fun thing to do as a couple, or you can come by yourself and find a partner there.

So what's it like?

Here's the view from the musicians on stage.  One or two lines of couples form, and follow the directions of the caller.

Here caller Ray Polhemus has already led the dancers to the point that they can continue the dance without instruction.

Some of the dance figures are in stars or rings, but the start and end position is a line, as in the Virginia Reel.

The result is fun.
Come and try it...
